Children's Ministries
Cokesbury United Methodist Church has a ministry with children based on belief in the importance of boys and girls experiencing at an early age the Christian values and faith that our church offers. Our goal is to train children for discipleship by teaching the love of God through our actions and our curriculum.
Children's Music Ministry
The Merry Music Makers
Rehearsals are held each Wednesday afternoon in Room 421 at 5:30 p.m.
Directed by Sharon Stauver, the children (Kindergarten - 2nd grade) learn about basics of music in a variety of ways and are exposed to scripture through the music they sing.
They furnish music frequently for Sunday morning worship, as well as participating in the "Hanging of the Greens".
The Merry Music Makers join the Asbury/Wesley choir each year in a Spring Concert.
The Asbury/Wesley Choir
The Asbury/Wesley Choir, grades 3-5, sing frequently in worship.
They also present one or two musicals each year and participate in the "Hanging of the Greens".
Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 5:30 - 6:15 pm.
KIDMO
Kidmo is an interactive, multi-media ministry that uses creativity and imagination to teach the Bible to children. It is offered every Sunday morning on the 9th Avenue campus in Bullington Hall during the 10:45 worship service.
Sunday “This and That”
Each Sunday morning on both the 9th Avenue and Summit Park campuses all children are welcome to worship services. “Gospel Grams”, a Sunday bulletin for children, is available in the narthex and parlor areas. They are available in both primary and intermediate age levels. We also offer worship bags (located by the church entry way) that have items designed to help keep your child engaged during worship. These bags are designed with preschoolers through first grade children in mind, but any age child is welcome to use them.
FW Friends (FaithWeaver Friends)
FW Friends is held each Wednesday evening during the school year from 6:15 through 7:30 in Bullington Hall on the 9th Avenue campus. Three year olds (potty trained)through fifth graders gather to have a safe place to laugh, love, and explore Bible points. FW Friends is a fast moving, rotational model curriculum with discovery centers. It integrates snacks, crafts, games, music, service projects, and a surprise station. With each area visited children are able to learn the Bible lesson of the night through a different form of learning. Children make new friends and discover the best friend any of us can have is Jesus Christ. Call Dawn in the church office (476-9618) for more information.
Special Activities
There are special activities that are planned for the children of the HIS Kids children's ministry throughout the year to nurture fellowship, fun, worship and their relationship with God. A few of these are: Winter Retreat, Easter Celebration, Father/Daughter Date Night, Thrilling Thursday, Summer Camp, Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, and Christmas Breakfast.
Missions
It is very important for the children to have the opportunity to participate in Mission Projects. These projects are done through Vacation Bible School, Christmas stockings for the United Methodist Children’s Home, making cards for congregation members who are ill as well as local nursing homes, and other projects selected throughout the year.
Childcare
Cokesbury provides a nursery of paid and volunteer staff. The nursery is available during all worship services. Childcare and nursery care is provided for other church related activities.
